A reminder of what's important

This blog post isn't my usual Thursday morning post and it's not really related to our Tribe other than I need to share it for my happy and sad heart.  Maybe you'll take a few minutes to read it, maybe you won't.  Strangely, posting this gives me some sort of closure and peace to a very sad week for our family.  I hope you watch and read and remember that life is very very short, live your best.

This is a video of my girls who are now 20 and 16.  I swear this video was just made a few months ago, it seems like someone snapped their fingers and suddenly I've lost 15 years. I have it on VHS somewhere but it's been put away in a box, I had forgotten about it until this morning when it was shared with me on Facebook.  Since then I have watched it 5 times.  That was 30 minutes ago.

My favorite part of the video?  There was extended family in almost every one of the shots.  Grandmas and Grandpas, Aunts and Uncles, Great Aunts and Uncles, and cousins...lots and lots of cousins.  I realized, this is what we do.  Here at our house we do family.  All of it. Good, bad, ugly, beautiful, crazy, dysfunctional, and fun.  All of it.  We do goofy, we do parties, we do red glitter shoes, we do hugs.  Lots and lots of hugs.

There are some family members in the video that aren't here anymore to see our kids and it made me so very sad.  People throw that saying around "life is short" so often that I think we don't really hear what they're saying so let me remind you - life is short.

My two beautiful baby girls are almost all grown up and I couldn't be more proud of them.  As Hillary says, "it takes a village", and I belong to one of the best villages around.  And now I'm lucky enough to belong to your village too...The Kind Tribe.

RIP Grandma Linda.

With courage and kindness...xoxo
